Jet Set Kit - $34 - http://www.spacenk.com

What qualifies you as a Jetsetter?

I'm flown to L.A. for less than 24 hours (for business of course), dropped by Barcelona, popped in to Tanzania...well, in retrospect they were actually well though out trips that took months of planning, booking car service and comparing hotels.

This holiday season, as you fly off to Brazil for a quality Christmas on the beach, or head to the ski sloaps for some serious competition, make sure to pack like a jetsetter.

Here are some of my fav. jet setting products this holiday:

You slather on sun block to protect against harmful UVA/UVB rays all summer long, but what are you doing to keep your scalp healthy?

We got the inside scoop on the hot topic of scalp health from famed trichologist

Philip Kingsley. His “cult” following is A-list all the way and includes starlets like Kate Winslet, Renee Zellweger, Candice Bergen…the list goes on!

Philip Kingsley, named “the hair guru” by The New York Times, shares his secrets for a healthy scalp, whether you’re strutting down Madison Avenue or down the boardwalk.

Q: What should I do to keep my scalp healthy?

A: Shampoo hair daily, while shampooing massage (knead) the scalp; use a scalp mask once a week or every other week and use an anti-flaky shampoo and scalp tonic occasionally to pre-empt the formulation of flakes.

Q: Does brushing hair impact scalp health?

A: The less you brush your hair, the better. And definitely not 100 strokes a day. Hard and heavy brushes can break the hair and pull it out, as well as scratch the scalp.

Q: How does diet affect my scalp?

A: Diet is crucial to health hair. For example, hair is protein so it’s important to have adequate protein intake. Many women also suffer from low iron levels, which can cause hair to fall, thin and become weaker. Foods containing high iron levels are important such as red meat, liver, whole grains and spinach. Also, take a multi-mineral, multi-vitamin daily.

Q: Is the scalp more prone to damage in the summer?

A: Yes, the sun breaks down the protein structure of the hair and also draws moisture from the hair cells.

Q: How does sun exposure impact scalp health?

A: Sun exposure roughens the hair's cuticle and gives the impression of drier, coarser and frizzier hair. Use a lightweight smoothing emulsion that protects from sun damage, while providing the hair with the much-needed moisture that it loses during the summer, leaving hair shiny and frizz-free.

Technorati Profile

About Our Expert: Philip Kingsley wanted to be more than a hairstylist. So, while working at his uncle’s salon in London, he studied and became a trichologist. Soon, he opened his own space dedicated to what in the 1950’s was a taboo subject—hair and scalp problems. After opening clinics in London and New York, he also launched his own trichologically driven product line based on hair textures rather than the standard normal, oily or dry. Now, 50 years later, Kingsley is the world’s leading authority on hair and scalp health.
