Just Can't Live Without...Sula Organic Shea Butter

By TheGlamtastic · August 10, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

As the summer progresses, I feel like my purse is only getting smaller, while the amount of "stuff" I need to keep with me throughout the day seems to grow, grow, grow! It started with two lipsticks; one dramatically dark rusted raspberry and one ultra-light pink. Then my collection quickly grew to include powder, mineral shimmer, dental floss, Advil...What can I say? I 'm a Jewish mother in training!

With an overstuffed handbag, the only items I have room for these days are multi-tasking beauty solutions to help cure dry, itchy, thirsty summer skin all over the body. Who doesn't love a beauty basic that heals and hydrates everywhere from your eyebrows to your elbows?

I recently found love when I tried Sula. This purse-perfect small tin is filled with Organic Shea Butter that works to soften, smooth and sooth dehydrated skin. This super soft moisturizer has become one of those products I am now digging through my purse to find.

What can I say? I just can't live without it!

Ask the Expert: Summer Skin Care Rules to Live By From Dr. David Colbert

By TheGlamtastic · August 4, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

I wish I had more friends who were doctors, so I could ask them all of my urgent and "oh, just wondering" skin care questions. Dr. David Colbert, Manhattan-based celeb dermatologist, shares his secrets for saving your skin from summer sun damage (and he won't even charge you. :)

Here are Dr. Colbert's rules for protecting your skin from summer sun damage:

#1: Dr. Colbert’s cardinal rule for safe sun start with applying SPF 15 throughout the day & SPF 30 if you're going to be outside and experience for extended periods of sun exposure, like a day at the beach or running on the West Side highway.

#2: Reapply every 3-4 hours, especially if you're getting sweaty or are taking a dip in the pool.

#3: For sunsports, like beach volleyball, beach football, you name it, Dr. Colbert recommends SPF 45 or a SPF 60, which will protect against UVA (rays that age you) and UVB rays (rays that burn you). He also recommends reaching for a waterproof product and applying it inside in front of the mirror before you leave the house to make sure you have covered all areas. Trust me, it looks really weird when you miss a large spot on your chest and end up with a big, white handprint while the rest of the area is tan.

And always stay safe in the sun!

What's your favorite summer sun protection product? I've included a few of my tried-and-true favorites below!

Please note: I did not receive editorial samples of the below items.

Tone Up + Detox in the Shower with Tone Daily Detox Purifying Body Wash

By TheGlamtastic · August 2, 2010 · 0 Comments ·
Available at drugstores nationwide - $3.99

My husband has put his foot down and made it clear that he wants me to show a little bit more skin. He doesn't think I should dress like a street walker, but a mini skirt or booty shorts are definitely on his list of upcoming "necessary" purchases. But after most of the summer spent eating Dino's subs my the beach and enjoying just a little bit of color (re-applying SPF 50 every few hours, of course), my insides and outsides needs a detox before I'll be prancing around the pool in a tiny, polka dot bikini!

Enter Tone Daily Detox Purifying Body Wash with White Clay and Pink Jasmine ($3.99). This fabulously floral, light and creamy summer-scented wash helps to rinse away daily impurities on the skin and gently exfoliate dead skin cells, leaving skin feeling fresh and super soft. This summer weight moisturizing body wash also utilizes Vitamin E to nourish dry, dehydrated summer skin. My skin needs all the moisture it can get!

Beauty Do or Dare: Neon Nails

By TheGlamtastic · July 15, 2010 · 0 Comments ·

It's already mid-July...WTF! Last thing I remember it was May and I was celebrating my one year anniversary at my fabulous job. How is it July???!!!

Well, while summer is in full swing I'm taking advantage and bringing out my neon brights. I better model my neon nail polishes while it's still beach season.

Before the summer comes to a close, take risks on your toe nail polish! If you love your new beyond bright shades, show them off with Gucci peep toe pumps or J. Crew flip flops. If you decide you hate the color after 48 hours, nail polish remover or closed-toed shoes are always an option!

What's your favorite summer nail polish shade? Tell us about it!

Just Can't Live Without...Womanity by Thierry Mugler

By TheGlamtastic · July 7, 2010 · 0 Comments ·
LOVE the web site! Tell Thierry Mugler what Womanity means to you...

1.0 FL Oz. Eau de Parfum Spray $58.00

1.7 FL Oz. Eau de Parfum Spray $78.00

2.7 FL Oz. Eau de Parfum Spray $98.00

Perfumed Shower Gel 6.8 FL Oz. $40.00

Perfumed Body Milk 6.8 FL Oz. $45.00

Perfumed Body Cream 6.8 FL Oz. $55.00

Eau de Parfum Refill Bottle $58.00

I am hard to impress, especially when it comes to fragrance, but I must admit that I am loving Womanity, the new scent from Thierry Mugler.

The perfumer used a technology called Molecular Distillation to extract notes of fig and caviar to utilize in this fresh, summer scent. This new technology allows beauty companies to extract fragrance ingredients that smell quite similar to the actual ingredient, whose scent could never be extracted before. DELICIOUS!

The fragrance as well as the bottle, according to the company, were inspired by the modern day woman. The modern day woman as I see it from my New York City apartment window, lives on her iPhone and/or Blackberry, sleeps next to her laptop and always carries flats, heels and a sexy shade of lipstick.

My generation of women eats, sleeps and breathes social media, so Thierry Mugler is giving the ladies what they want. The company has created a site dedicated to what it means to be a woman, and they have invited today's women to answer the question of what that means to each individual. Check it out at http://www.womanityglobal.us/.

If helping to slow down global warming or reduce waste is your mission as a woman, Womanity by Thierry Mugler was thinking of you when they designed their packaging. No carbon footprint is left behind - the fragrance bottles are refillable, making the scent a renewable source - LOVE!

Dying to try this scent for yourself? It's available this August at Bloomingdale's, this October in Nordstrom and online at http://us.boutique.thierrymugler.com. If you can't wait, try a free sample now at http://esampling.womanity.com/us/.

Burn Baby Burn...or Not!

By TheGlamtastic · June 30, 2010 · 0 Comments ·
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime.

If you've met me, then you know I closely resemble Disney's Snow White. A "tan" by my standards is watching my freckles appear following an afternoon at the beach. Love freckles, I think they're so sexy! Sunburn, not so much!

There was that summer that I went to Fire Island with my older sister for a little R&R. I bathed myself in sunscreen - 90 SPF at that. I reapplied and reapplied, but I must have missed a few spots because when I got home, it looked like I had hideous red handprints schmeared across my legs. The burn quickly turned to sun poisoning and lets just say it wasn't pretty! It was actually Freddie Kruger gross!

Wherever you're heading to the beach or the blow up swimming pool on your rooftop this Fourth of July weekend, make sure to load up on the sunscreen! Here are a few of my dermatologist-recommended favs!

What sunscreen do you just LOVE? Tell us about it!!!
